Fast, stable Wi-Fi, ergonomic workstations, a quiet shared space and quiet spots for calls are essential. Check the internet speed in advance as well as the time difference to clients and colleagues. Fincas and team houses, for example, offer plenty of space for working and living together under one roof.

Workation or team offsite: what is the difference?

On a workation, the team carries on with its day-to-day work, just in a different place. A team offsite, by contrast, has a shared programme, for example on strategy, planning or collaboration. If you are mainly looking for focus and a change of scene, a workation is the right fit; for shared goals, choose an offsite.

What do I need to clarify before a workation abroad?

Clarify employment, tax and social security questions in advance, such as length of stay, insurance cover and, within the EU, the A1 certificate. Data protection and access to company systems should also be settled. Talk to HR or your tax adviser early on, before you book.

What does the cost of a team workation depend on?

The cost is driven mainly by destination, duration, season, type of accommodation and travel. The off-season at the destination often lowers prices, and longer stays can improve daily rates. Besides accommodation, factor in flights, meals and coworking and equipment costs.
